Measuring Financial Literacy. Results of the OECD / International Network on Financial Education (INFE) Pilot Study

This paper presents the findings from an OECD International Network on Financial Education pilot study undertaken in 14 countries. The analysis focuses on variations in financial knowledge, behaviour and attitude across countries and within countries by socio-demographics. The results highlight a lack of financial knowledge amongst a sizeable proportion of the population in each of the countries surveyed. Furthermore, there is considerable room for improvement in terms of financial behaviour. Attitudes are shown to vary widely. Este trabajo presenta los resultados de una Red Internacional de la OCDE sobre el estudio piloto de Educación Financiera llevado a cabo en 14 países. El análisis se centra en las variaciones en conocimientos financieros, el comportamiento y la actitud entre los países y dentro de los países de socio-demográficos. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto una falta de conocimiento financiero entre una parte importante de la población en cada uno de los países encuestados. Por otra parte, existe un considerable margen de mejora en términos de comportamiento financiero. Las actitudes se muestran a variar mucho.
